Satellite Ground Station (SGS)

Spectra is a world leader in providing “Added Value” services across satellite communication bearers globally. We use the Inmarsat BGAN services for small, lightweight, very portable applications and VSAT services for higher bandwidth applications in relatively static locations.

An integral part of our “added value” satellite service offering is our 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) which provides monitoring, helpdesk support and fault resolution to all satellite deployed assets.

Portable phone services provide essential voice calls and messaging for those operating in remote regions around the world.

We can supply Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya SatPhones for highly portable voice capability and cost-efficient, low bandwidth data.

SwiftBroadband from Inmarsat provides global voice and high-speed data, simultaneously, through a single installation on an aircraft.

Satellite telephony, enhanced data, secure connections and global coverage are the mark of SwiftBroadband.

SwiftBroadband is an IP-based packet-switched service offering ‘always-on’ data at up to 432kbps per channel. It can also provide IP streaming at various rates up to a full channel.

FleetBroadband is Inmarsat’s flagship maritime service, providing dependable, seamless voice and broadband data coverage across the world’s oceans.

Spectra operates a VSAT network utilising partnered Satellite Ground Stations (SGSs) at strategic locations that provide global coverage. These SGSs are located in the US, Europe and Asia and are linked to our core infrastructure ensuring an extremely high level of assurance and Quality of Service.

We are able to facilitate both SCPC and TDMA for dedicated and shared VSAT services depending on individual customers requirements.

BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) offers a compelling combination of all-in-one phone and broadband.

Using compact and lightweight terminals, it is easy to set-up and use. BGAN is unique in offering global broadband data with simultaneous voice, through a single, highly compact device. It is an excellent solution for disaster situations and temporary field offices for small teams in areas where terrestrial communications are poor or non-existent.

BGAN terminals can be used indoors and out, being robust enough to withstand challenging environments and extremes of temperature. Vehicular BGAN terminals significantly enhances productivity by providing COTM (communications on the move), with personnel being able to send and emails and make calls without having to stop, virtually anywhere in the world.

SHADE is a fully managed service that gives you the ultimate communications flexibility in a highly portable and easy-to-use package.

Satellite communication is the most robust option but not necessarily the cheapest. With SHADE you can rapidly deploy and deliver voice and data services across any bearer that is available. Using what is available, with or without a satellite option as back-up. The deployed SHADE Nodes do not care what is delivering the bandwidth, they will tunnel into the SHADE  Core using Leased Line, GPRS, ADSL, Wifi, 3G, 4G or satellite. Once connected, they will provide connectivity to the World Wide Web, ISDN, PSTN or dedicated private networks.

SHADE is provided as a fully managed service (including airtime, manpower and equipment) and is completely scalable and flexible to meet your specific requirements. All equipment is packaged in ruggedised, portable and air-checkable containers and supported by our 24/7 NOC, to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) levels are maintained.

Spectra is an Inmarsat Platinum Partner and is therefore able to pass on exclusive deals, on both hardware and airtime rates.

The Inmarsat service is extremely flexible and provides voice and data communications on portable, lightweight, easy to use, terminals.

You do not need to be a specialist communicator to be able to set-up and operate an Inmarsat terminal.

Spectra supports its Inmarsat customers through our 24/7 NOC for helpdesk-related calls. The Platinum Partnership also gives Spectra, and its customers, direct access into Inmarsat for support-related enquiries, enabling an even higher level of support.

Inmarsat is the world’s leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services. They deliver mobile voice and high-speed data connectivity through the world’s most versatile and reliable commercial satellite network.

Madley Satellite Ground Station

Our teleport is located in rural Herefordshire and has 80+ Satellite antennas, up to 32 metres in diameter. The teleport provides connectivity for C, Ka, Ku and X Bands.

It is located on a BT site and therefore has a very large capacity for terrestrial networks connectivity . The equipment is backed up by UPS and two large back up generators that automatically start in the event of a mains power failure.

The site is secured by a perimeter fence and CCTV and is manned by security guards providing 24/7 controlled access.

We have agreements in place with teleports in the US, UK, France, Germany and Singapore that enables Spectra to provide global satellite coverage
